Kars / Sarıkamış / Kozan Village (2018)
Kars-Kozan is a city in northeast of Turkey and has the highest second rate of early marriage across the country. Due to the geographic circumstances, the winter conditions are tough and access to education is difficult. For this reason, the primary objective of this project is ensuring that boys and girls are be able to recognize their rights, more children can be educated by increasing to access the education, which all objectives play an important role to prevent early marriages.
For these purposes, WHR Volunteer team has been carried out psychosocial support activities as well as assisting the construction team during the construction works in the region. With the psychosocial support activities, various art workshops and different activities were organized with the children of village every day for 3 hours. Especially the psychoeducation on child sexual abuse was given to the children in order to protect them.
Team of WHR, stayed in a village house which is provided by the villagers, established a warm relationship with the local people in the remaining time. In addition to assist on their daily work of women and children, they spend educative, instructive and entertaining time all together. As a result of this interaction, the importance of education has been present in their daily life to the villagers and children. At the end of the project, girls, who were not sent to the school enrolled to the school by their families which serve as a model of the project`s ultimate goal.
Through the reconstruction of this school, WHR ensures access to one nursery class and three primary education classes. The construction of the school building has been met the criteria of the Ministry of Education requirements. Furthermore, the school has been equipped with indoor furniture by Provincial Directorate for National Education (desk and benches) and educational materials by WHR and its partners (library, educative toys, books, notebooks, pencil sets, bags, etc.).
